How the calculation works

The weld point sits directly above the tube by the specified gap. From there the fabric runs tangent to the tube, wraps around its exposed lower arc, and returns along the opposite tangent. Because the finished height already reaches to the bottom of the loaded pocket, the vertical weld-to-bottom distance (diameter + gap) is already included. Extra fabric = complete pocket path + weld width − (diameter + gap). Total cut height = finished height + extra fabric. For the rear marking line, turn the cut sheet over and measure upward from its new cut edge by the complete pocket path plus two weld widths. Effective pocket diameter is the complete usable pocket path divided by π, showing the theoretical size if the welded pocket formed a perfect circle. Values are rounded to the nearest millimetre. Always confirm a sample against your fabric stretch, weld process and tube fittings.
